Israel Pushes for Extended US Military Action Against Iran
Officials say Israel is trying to convince Washington that the operation against Tehran is far from complete, and that now is the time to intensify rather than scale back the campaign.
This development follows statements from US Vice President JD Vance in Europe, who indicated that the conflict with Iran would conclude “very shortly,” claiming that most of America’s military objectives have already been met.
"First of all, the United States has largely accomplished its military objectives," Vance told reporters at a news conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest.
While acknowledging that some efforts remain to limit Iran’s weapons production capabilities, he emphasized that the principal goals of the campaign have been achieved.
Two former senior Israeli officials with close military connections reportedly stated that Tel Aviv views a ceasefire as premature. They suggested that the war should continue for at least another month to further Israel’s aim of destabilizing the Iranian government, with the hope that it could collapse in the coming months or years.
“One or two more months” would help to achieve that goal, one of the officials said. “Nobody can say for sure, but what we see today is that they are already on the verge of collapse.”
