Russian LNG Tanker Targeted Off Malta
The ministry identified the targeted ship as the Arctic Metagas, stating the strike occurred Tuesday off the Libyan coastline.
Officials said the vessel had departed from Murmansk, a major port in northwestern Russia, transporting cargo described as "cleared in accordance with all international regulations."
Moscow wasted no time in escalating its rhetoric, issuing a sharp condemnation of the incident.
"We classify this incident as an act of international terrorism and maritime piracy, a gross violation of the fundamental norms of international maritime law," the ministry said.
The ministry further alleged that such operations were carried out with the "connivance of the authorities of European Union member states," calling on the global community to take note and hold those responsible to account.
Kyiv has yet to respond to the allegations, leaving Moscow's account of events unchallenged and unverified.
The attack marks yet another flashpoint in the increasingly volatile shadow war playing out across international waters, as both nations continue to target each other's strategic and economic assets far beyond their shared border.
