Kremlin Voices Regret Over Poland’s Closure of Final Russian Consulate

(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov voiced sharp regret on Wednesday over Poland’s decision to shutter the final Russian consulate in the country, warning that bilateral relations between Moscow and Warsaw have "completely degraded."

Speaking to a news agency, Peskov described Warsaw’s move as an effort to reduce diplomatic ties with Russia to zero. His comments followed the announcement by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski that Poland had withdrawn permission for the Russian Consulate General in Gdansk to continue operations.

"This is probably another manifestation of this degradation, a desire by the Polish authorities to eliminate any possibility of consular or diplomatic relations," Peskov said. "This has nothing to do with common sense."

He stressed that the closure marks a further deterioration in relations, signaling what Moscow sees as a systematic effort to sever the remaining channels of diplomatic communication. Analysts note that the move could complicate ongoing regional negotiations and heighten tensions between the two European nations.
