US, Russia Initiative Seeks New Path Toward Peace
According to a Tuesday report from a media outlet, which referenced unnamed American and Russian officials, the 28-point proposal takes cues from President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire framework that Israel and Hamas endorsed last month following more than two years of Israel’s devastating campaign in Gaza.
The new draft is structured around four main pillars: establishing tranquility in Ukraine, offering security assurances, enhancing wider European stability, and shaping the future of Washington’s ties with both Kyiv and Moscow, the report noted.
However, how the initiative tackles fundamental disagreements — particularly the dispute over territorial control in eastern Ukraine — remains uncertain.
A U.S. official indicated that Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff is spearheading the project and has engaged in in-depth talks with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who said he spent three days conferring with Trump’s team in Miami in late October.
According to a White House official, Trump maintains that “there is a chance to end this senseless war if flexibility is shown,” and American officials have started briefing European allies on the developing proposal.
